It’s a problem we all have when you check your make-up halfway through the night and your mascara has started to run and your lipstick has smudged and there’s just no space in front of the mirror to re-do the whole lot! Well here are some tips on how to make your make-up last all night long, so all you have to worry about is throwing some serious shapes!
Prep your skin. Prepping your face before applying makeup is essential if you want to keep things in place all evening. First, apply a light moisturiser evenly all over your skin and follow with a makeup primer. We recommend DHC Velvet Skin Coat.
Waterproof products– Opt to use waterproof eyeliners and mascaras to prevent running and smudging throughout the night. By lining the inner rim of your eye with a waterproof pencil, you can easily pop your eye colour and have the benefit of a streamlined look all night long.
Use a cream or liquid foundation and apply with a sponge or brush. Oil-free or mineral foundations tend to last the longest. Then dust with a finishing/translucent powder and set with a water-based fixing spray. Keep the spray with you and spritz over your entire face whenever you need to refresh during the night.
Apply lip liner on your entire lip. Choose a lip liner that is close to your favourite holiday shade and apply it all over your lip as if it were lipstick. Then, apply your lipstick over that. This will keep your colour vibrant and make it last all night.
Wear lip gloss over your lipstick. To be extra safe and make sure that lip lasts, apply a light layer of clear gloss over your lipstick. This will give it a shine and seal the colour in for even longer wear.
Highlight under your eye. For an extra boost of brightness that will last until the wee hours of the night, apply a light layer of highlighting powder after your makeup in an inverted triangle under your eye. Brush it on, then tap it into your skin using your finger. We love Undress Your Skin Highlighting Powder – Pink Shimmer
For lashes that stay curled all night, heat your eyelash curler with a blow dryer prior to curling, but make sure the curler isn’t overly hot before use! Curl along the eyelash, from the base, middle and the tips to get as much curl as possible, then apply mascara. For the ultimate in long-lasting wear, invest in ‘tubing’ mascara; it coats the lashes in a polymer that creates a ‘tube’ around each individual lash.
Keep blotting sheets in your purse. After all the drinking and dancing, many of us end up with a layer of sheen across our foreheads—and not the “Oh, you’re glowing,” luminescent kind. Your knee-jerk reaction may be to apply powder, but instead of adding more makeup, dab a blotting sheet on your face to remove excess oil and shine without disturbing the makeup that’s already there.
